Knowing more than one language offers a way to deepen connections to the world around us and is an important part of 21st century learning. As a school we focus on developing children’s knowledge of Spanish because it is a vital part of the culture and development of the city in which we live.
We have a dual language program (LTL) in a strand of classrooms from Early Childhood (ages 4-6) through Upper (ages 10-12). You can learn more about the LTL program here.
Students in Primary through Upper who are not in the LTL Program learn conversational Spanish.
The conversational Spanish program engages children in fun, everyday activities such as cooking and celebrating holidays to develop vocabulary and help them connect Spanish to their own lives. Projects may also include creating picture books and presenting oral reports. Students who are more advanced are given more challenging work according to their skills and learning needs.
