Dual Language Theater

Ages 8-10, entering grades 3-5 in the fall
Learning outcomes - Students will be able to practice:
  • Verbal and non-verbal Literacy: We meet our students where they are at, as well as how they want to be seen. A script is just the very beginning of a larger and imagination-fueled process in which nouns, adjectives, verbs and much more acquire movement, sound and pace.
  • Bilingual Literacy: New vocabulary comes with context and embodied practice.
  • Artistic criteria: Students make connections with different styles to move, project their voice and create meaning through artistic expression.
  • Critical thinking: Explore artistic choices to develop socially conscious characters rooted in our Safe School curriculum.
  • Confidence: Actors build stamina to persevere and rehearse, until the student feels that their work is "presentation ready."
In groups, students get to try different roles as playwrights, actors, set designers and directors. In theater, students who enjoy different types of expression find the connection between having fun and growth in self-confidence through practice and presentation. At the end of the 4 weeks, students will culminate with a short video.
English and Spanish carry the vehicular role of in-class communication. Contributions in all languages spoken by our students are welcome and celebrated in our scripts, scenes and stage.
